About Verve – knowledge & skills
Verve – knowledge & skills, is the industry training advisory board (ITAB) for the cultural and recreation industries in Victoria.
Verve is a not-for-profit, semi-government funded organisation that conducts research and engages in projects, events and activities that improve knowledge on the cultural and recreation industries with a particular focus on current skills needs.
Vision
To continue to be recognised as a key point of exchange between industry, training providers and government on current and future skills needs for the cultural and recreation sectors. To use our knowledge to support the growth of the cultural and recreation industries so that we collectively benefit from an innovative and well society.
Mission
Verve’s mission is to work with industry, government, training providers and the community to ensure that skills and knowledge requirements of the sectors are being met. This is to be achieved by:
- Research and development on current and future industry trends and skills needs.
- Facilitating communication between stakeholders (government, industry, Vocational Education and Training, VET sector and community).
- Engaging in projects and activities and developing products and services in response to identified industry needs and anticipated trends
- Advocacy – promoting the value of training and development in the sectors to government, industry and the public
- Informing Industry on developments within Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Our sectors
The cultural and recreation sectors include the broad gamut of visual arts, performing arts, sports, fitness, outdoor recreation, community recreation, coaching and officiating, libraries, entertainment, writing and publishing, music, zoos and heritage, film and television and design.
Arts and cultural industries have 5 training packages:
- Film, television, radio and multimedia
- Libraries and museums
- Music and recording
- Visual arts and design
- Entertainment
Sport and recreation industries have 4 training packages
- Community recreation
- Fitness
- Outdoor recreation
- Sport
Additionally there are 4 curriculum areas which are currently being delivered across both private and public Registered Training Organisations.
